"Headin' On" - June 24, 2005
|
|
Having toured extensively throughout the United States and received a nomination for My Texas 2003 album of the year for their first release "Short & Sweet", Lil' Bit and the Customatics are back with a new set of tunes! The band retained Jen 'Lil' Bit' Adams on vocals and Tomcat Miller on bass, but added a hot new guitar picker Brian Duarte on lead guitar and Dave Grisci on rhythm guitar. Despite the line-up change, the Customatics have retained their style of stompin' Texas hillbilly bop, country jazz and rockabilly. "Headin' on" really shines with original
songs like "Paintin the Town" (nice jazzy country boogie with
some fine guitar pickin), "My Biggest Mistake" (dark western
ballad) and "Now That You've Gone Away" (peppy country jazz).
They also knock out a couple of good covers with "Step It Up &
Go" and "Just Because". Nice all around sound on
the CD and some great guitar playing throughout. |

"Short & Sweet" - July

Lil Bit and the Customatics are a four
piece drummer-less quartet from Texas that play honky-tonk, country, hillbilly
and even some rockabilly. The band features Jen Adams on vocals,
Brent Warren on lead guitar, Steve James on acoustic guitar
and Tom Miller (formerly of the Bop Kings) on upright bass. Brent
is not only a fantastic picker, but has written most of the material
on the groups debut record "Short & Sweet". Jen belts
out some pretty strong vocals and the rhythm section is as solid as a
tank.
The CD contains some pretty peppy material that is sure to get your toes a tappin' and your big feet a slappin'. My favorite tracks on the CD are the originals "Back on Track" which has some neat dobro guitar and "IH 35 Down". only 2 songs on this 11 tracker are covers and the sound quality is quite good. |
