The Hangin' Tree, Bracken's premier honky tonk, was really rockin' on a recent Sunday afternoon. The rockabilly sounds of Lil' Bit & The Customatics captured our attention from the first thump of that mighty upright bass. Their first appearance at the Hangin' Tree showcased the dynamic vocals of lead singer Jen Adams, affectionately known as Lil Bit. Hard to believe that such a strong voice could come from such a cute little gal, but it sure does! And it keeps on coming, taking the crowd through a variety of show-stopping tunes. Their music, classified as rockabilly/hillbilly, has also been termed "honky tonk-a-billy" by Lucky Boyd...a pretty accurate description. Their music has evolved over the years as guitarist
Brent Warren has fine tuned his (former) band until he came up with
this dynamic combination. Originally the leader of Papa & The Texas
Three, Papa & The Tallboys and The Ramblin' Kind, Brent (nominated
for Musician of the Year in 2003) is now head guitarist for The Customatics. Because of Jen's early influence by Patsy Cline, Charlene Arthur and Hank Williams, you'll hear a lot of this style of music throughout your evening. Catering to the dance cravings of swing dancers and two-steppers alike, they love playing the old stuff. Although they are based in the San Antonio, Wimberly & Hill Country areas of Texas, they have toured the West Coast and the Northwest Pacific and have a hectic fall schedule booked.
